All Saints Church Durrington

Daily Prayer

Tuesday - Saturday. 8 a.m.

The Church of England is the established Church in the country and is governed by certain rules and regulations known as “Canons”. One of these states that, “the minister of the parish, together with all other ministers licensed to serve in the said parish, being at home and not otherwise reasonably hindered, shall resort to the Church morning(s)… and, warning people by the tolling of the bell, say or sing the Common Prayers.”

I have a system for tolling the bell which uses the day, month and year. For instance, 18th April 2008 would be 18 rings then 4 rings then eight rings. This is not required of me by law but I like to add some variety, and keep people on their toes who may be counting. Ringing the bell in churches announces to the community that we are open for business and that something significant is happening within our midst - namely conversation with God.

Candle CrucifixBeyond being a legal requirement for Anglican clergy, praying for the needs of the parish is actually a great honour and privilege as it keeps us rooted in the community, sharing in some way in all the joys and sorrows that occur in everyday life. Morning Prayer involves a regular reading of the psalms, which is the bible’s prayer book, along with a pattern of other bible readings from the Old and New Testaments. Certain feast days and festivals may be celebrated and ad these are reflected in some of the prayers used.

But this is not a private service and anyone is welcome to join with me. Any day from Tuesday to Saturday (not Monday as I have a day off) I will be in Church at 8 a.m., and if you are passing by or have a particular need for prayer please feel free to join me.

The services of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer for today are available on this site to help you find time for God during your day.
